Mommy Question - Is This Normal??

So for the last month or so, we've been trying to introduce eating solids to Connor. It started with giving him his own food at the end of feeding him cereal and baby food. Well, now the last few days he is refusing to eat any cereal or babyfood, and only feed himself solids. This wouldn't be such an issue except that 3/4 of the food he feeds himself ends up on the floor or in his lap! My only real concern is that he won't get enough "good stuff" to eat. Do you think this phase will pass and he'll let us feed him again??

  1. It's quite possible that he thinks he has this whole eating thing totally figured out and doesn't need help anymore. Have you tried letting him feed himself his cereal or baby food? He'll make a huge mess, but will probably enjoy "doing it himself" Another thing to consider, is any formula/breastmilk he's still getting - remember that babies survive solely on that stuff for 4 months or more, so he's still getting nutrients from it now too. And then again, it could just be a phase like you say, and the novelty of feeding himself will wear off :-) Don't worry about it too much, which I know is easier said than done...I've been there (twice).

  2. We had and STILL HAVE that issue with Callie. She rarely eats what we give her, just hucks it on the floor. I just figure that is she isnt getting enough, she will eventually start to eat. My Dr always told me they will eat when they are hungry, even if they go a few days with nothing but liquid. Arent kids fun!

  3. Yeah, I can comment!! I think it's okay. I'd only be really worried if he starts fussing more because he might be hungry! I'd just play a wait and see game! Madeline will eat for 2 days straight and then not eat for 4 days. It's all a matter of personal preference! Good luck, keep us posted!

  4. Once Haylee started to eat real food she totally refused to eat cereal. eventually she just started to eat more and more. So in her case it was just a phase.
